Where to start. This hotel is superb. From the moment we arrived the prime objective was to ensure we had the best experience possible. All of the staff work incredibly hard but one person stood out for us. I hope I have spelled his name correctly – Gauthieu Bernard the Guest Experiece Manager was just the most amazing person. He spent time with us recommending restaurants and places of interest and so kindly left a wonderful gift of ham, cheese and wine in our room and after a day in the city, some chilled sparkling water. His care and attention was so touching and so appreciated as my husband had been ill and this short break was a treat for him. Also worth a mention is Fabio on reception and Almudenah who is part of the team in the restaurant and bar. She really looked after us. We ate in Carmen restaurant on Wednesday evening and it was superb. Thank you to all of you for your kindness.

Fantastic stay at Only You to celebrate our anniversary. On arrival our room wasn’t quite ready so the staff arranged a complimentary upgrade and insisted on providing drinks from the bar to apologise – hugely appreciated. The staff are genuinely attentive, kind and hugely helpful. Gauthier and his team in Guest Experience are wonderful and kindly sent us cava & treats for our special day. The breakfast staff and Reception staff are equally wonderful and eager to help as is the amazing cleaning lady who has left our room sparkling every day – thank you. Rooms are very comfortable… beds give a peaceful sleep, food is delicious and location is perfect… thank you for an amazing stay.

After visiting Malaga city in June and enjoying a cocktail here we knew we had to book to stay. Returned in August with high expectations, we were not disappointed. Food was excellent. Staff knew us by name. The personal touch can’t be underrated. And a special treat in our room from the fantastic Gauthier – Guest Experience manager who’s knowledge of the city was exceptional. From the attention to detail to the outstanding guest service we will be back. Madrid next!

First time in Málaga and at an Only YOU hotel – and it won’t be the last!

The location is a solid 5/5. The moment you step outside, you’re right in the vibrant heart of Málaga. There are restaurants at every corner, and the rooftop view from the hotel is simply exquisite.

The service was outstanding. The staff helped us plan a new travel route, responded to every request promptly, and greeted us warmly each time we entered or exited the hotel. Their consistency and friendliness truly stood out.

The rooms are beautifully designed—calm, tasteful, and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and well-equipped, and the textures of the walls and floors were surprisingly soft and luxurious. High-quality fabrics and a bed that felt like sleeping on a cloud made it all the more special.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Only YOU Málaga. I would absolutely recommend it—and I’d definitely return.

Siamo stati benissimo. Angela & Andrea

Just returned from a 4 night break at this fantastic hotel, the position is perfect right opposite the main shopping street, old town and port area. All the staff were amazing, friendly, approachable and professional, nothing was too much trouble. We were there during the festival so the whole area was busy but the staff went above and beyond at times, special mention to Diego, his knowledge of wine is extensive, and to Eduardo and the lovely hostess. The views from the pool area both during the day and night were amazing. Will not hesitate to stay here again or recommend the hotel to family and friends.

This place is a gem.
Staff are wonderful – helped with bags, bag storage.

I had to leave at 4 am and they helped get me a taxi and get to the cab.

The location is superb. I missed the welcome drink but that was a lovely touch.

The pods are spotlessly clean !

This hostel is an absolute gem! Pods are really convenient with enough space. You get towels in the room and, if there is need, you can borrow a hairdryer from the reception. Common rooms such as kitchen and living room are extremely clean and well equipped. Bathroom is also very clean and spacious! Cleaning ladies were present every day! Location is spot on as you are close to historic part of Malaga and everything is in walking proximity. Highly recommended!

Clean and comfortable budget accommodation, centrally located. |The pod rooms provide good privacy with some extra space to yourself, however the cleanliness and maintenance of the rooms requires some improvement – my Pod needed a fresh coat of paint. Also, ,I would still recommend taking ear plugs as the soundproofing isn’t great. |The shared bathroom facilities are modern and stylish and kept clean. |The lobby area provides some seating to relax and there’s a small kitchen area where you can keep and prepare some food.

We had a wonderful stay – everything was very clean, and the breakfast was delicious. The location is excellent, with easy access to everything we needed. The only downsides were that the locks on the toilet and shower occasionally got stuck, and towels were only changed every five days, which felt a bit too long, especially since there was no way to dry them properly after a shower. Overall, though, it was a great experience, and we would happily stay here again.

I visited here twice in August. The first during a festival, I couldn’t have asked for a more professional experience. There were answers to my questions, staff went out of their way to help, wether it was some where to eat or making sure I had a taxi at 5am. Location is perfect, on a secondary street but connected to the main streets. As clean if not cleaner than any where else I have stayed. The rooms are small, that should be obvious from the fotos and dimensions but that’s not why you’re there. The atmosphere is laid back, a bar down stairs, Wi-Fi hookup everywhere and quiet even on on Friday nite during festival. And a wonderful breakfast, art and a lending library.|Thanx

We stayed there with a large group some time ago, and this hostel is adequate for sleeping.
The building is very basic.
The beds in the rooms are rickety, and the mattresses and bedding are thin.
Breakfast consists mostly of packaged bread/rolls.
The hostel is inconveniently located outside of downtown Málaga, so you have to get to the center first.

The absolute worst place I’ve ever slept in, the customer service is nonexistent, the towels and bedsheets are filthy and stink of puke and there is a downright psychotic guard who patrols the hallways and watches the security cams 24/7, if you walk around the hallways past 9pm this guard will threaten you with handcuffs and a baton. I feel scared walking around the hallways past 9pm, I never know if he is going to beat me with a baton or just get yelled at by him. I love Malaga, but this place is hell on earth and it feels like I’m paying to stay at a prison. If I could give zero stars as a rating I would.

I really regret booking this place. First of all, it is far from the city center, and you have to take a bus to get there. The problem is, the bus is always late, so you end up wasting a lot of time just waiting.
The room I was given was not the one I booked. I had reserved a room with two beds, but when I complained, they told me those rooms were fully booked and there was no availability. The breakfast was mediocre and honestly felt more like a school cafeteria than a hotel. The whole place looks and feels like a boarding school.
It is extremely overpriced for what it offers. I didn’t enjoy anything about my stay and I would definitely not recommend it.

Wifi veloce gratis. Siamo rimasti tutti molto soddisfatti grazie, alla prossima!

This hostel was clean, friendly staff, they give you a towel at no extra cost, the kitchen is fully equipped and the location is quite central (30 min walk to the beach). There are 2 showers and 2 bathrooms for at least 2-3 rooms of 8ppl each. No shower gel/shampoo provided, the water was often cold, and there is no vibe in this hostel unfortunately.

The Hostal is a short walk away from the centre street. Really great location for the price. The room had air con which was a life saver in August heat. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The double bed room was a good size. Although the shower/bathroom is small. It’s just right for two people. There’s no room for your legs for the toilet, so you have to sit sideways but this made us laugh about it really. We didn’t hear any street noise, only the buzzing noise outside, but that helps me sleep is anything. We would stay again 🙂

The hostel is very centrally located, there is a good sized supermarket as well as a number of bars and restaurants nearby. The city center is within minutes walking distance. There is some noise level from the street, but that’s to be expected at this kind of location. We had a room with bunk beds and an outside bathroom. The room was bigger than expected, and the bathroom was also alright. The staff was very nice and explained everything thoroughly. The common area is cozy and well equipped with plates, cups, silverware and such.
The bunk bed isn’t stable enough, it moves when either person moves in their sleep.

We had an amazing stay at The Urban Jungle Hostel! ✨
The location is unbeatable – right on the beach with real jungle vibes, it feels like paradise.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms were always spotless. The service is outstanding: Umberto, the host, is super friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. He even cooked for us – such a highlight!

He also organizes fantastic Coiba tours, which we can highly recommend. Everything was perfectly arranged and we had unforgettable experiences.

In short: absolutely top – from the atmosphere and cleanliness to the service! If you come to Santa Catalina, this is the place to stay.

ziemlich teuer, aber gut.

Positiv:

Interesting hostel, really positive vibes all around and I especially enjoyed the tapas nights. I actually thought the paella/fiduea was tastier and had more depth of flavour than any other restaurant paellas I’ve had in Spain, so BRAVO!! I’m not joking either because I am a chef and work in a Spanish tapas. The mushroom croquetas were delicious too. Thanks for the meal, I didn’t get the staff name who made the food but she was so nice. Also the receptionist who checked me in, I think it was Laura whom was very warm, welcoming and so cute! I have been several times to Malaga and this is one of my favourite stays, thanks to Urban Jungle for making it more fun especially for a solo traveller. Definitely recommend it for location and all the above.

This was a great hostel.
The location is very ideal ( restaurants / cafes / bakeries/ stores ) everything is around the corner.
The staff was amazing, really friendly and accommodating.
The receptionists and cleaning staff were amazing.
Olmo was my favorite receptionist as he was the friendliest staff there, always willing to talk and to share good spots to go to in Malaga and found the time to play chess with me.

This hostel was pretty good. Very clean and a good kitchen and rooftop.

It was pretty social and I met some good people. Most of the hostel activities are outsourced (i.e. the pub crawls, walking tours) so it’s very convenient but doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be meeting people from the hostel.

Bathrooms were super clean, though having to press the button every 20sec for water in the shower was annoying.

The beds were very creaky if your weight wasn’t perfectly spread out. Tack on the fact it’s in a party area (so street noise) and you’ll have room-mates coming back all through the night, it’s not the best for a great sleep. But I think most people know that coming in (myself included) and so didn’t bother me too much – just be aware.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall, given this was probably the most expensive hostel from my research, I might opt for a different one if I was to come back to Malaga. But if you want something in a great location, that’s super clean and modern, and you’re not planning on a long stay, then I reckon this ticks all your boxes!

Great place to stay as a solo traveller. Very good location as it is right in the center of everything. I got welcomed by the sweetest receptionist, Laura, who was being super kind and helpful all the time. The only negative thing I will mention about this hostel was the kitchen. I saw a lot of ants in the kitchen and on the kitchen equipment as well. Not very appealing… Otherwise, super stay, nice events they do, such as pub crawl as well!

I loved my stay here! The hostel is in the centre, so it’s easy to go anywhere by foot. Of course it’s a bit noisy, but what else do you expect booking a hostel in the centre of a touristy city.
My room was pretty nice – beds are comfortable and not squeeky.
The only thing that was a bit disappointing were the showers. Door design makes them leak on the floor and there’s some mold in the corners.
The staff very incredibly friendly and helpful! I’d stay here again.

One of the best hostels I’ve been to. Cleanliness is noticeable and beds are comfortable. The bathroom is also very nice to use. However, bring your own lock. It’s in a perfect location, as soon as you step out onto the street you immediately feel good.

The location is really city center. U can reach pretty much everywhere in center. Thinga are after 9pm it’s really noisy…. a lot of ppl screamed, drinking a lot, and etc. Also, the beds are kinda uncomfortable. However, it’s still so much worth to stay because of mostly location and restroom :)) Also, people who work there are mostly nice ♡ Muchas gracias♡ @Alexanderjinkim

@Alexanderjinkim

If I could give -100 stars, I would. This was not just bad service — this was outright humiliation, targeted disrespect, and shocking inhumanity.

We were thrown out like trash for being just 10 minutes late. They literally threw our belongings onto the street in front of other guests and passersby. It wasn’t just unacceptable — it was disgusting, degrading, and completely intentional.

The two women staff on duty, especially Alba, were brutal, cold, and incredibly disrespectful. The way Alba told us to leave was laced with blatant racism and pure contempt. This was not a misunderstanding — it was crystal clear that we were being treated this way because of who we are. They humiliated us on purpose. It was like they took pleasure in embarrassing us publicly.

I cannot even describe the depth of shame we felt in that moment. It was cruel, aggressive, and inexcusable.

On top of this shocking behavior, the rooms were claustrophobic, dirty, smelly, with stained bedsheets and no towels. But honestly, the filthy room was nothing compared to the emotional violence we experienced from the staff.

We also work in the hospitality industry — and let me tell you: this was the absolute worst treatment I have ever seen anywhere in the world. I have never witnessed such hostility towards tourists. These people should not be in the hospitality business at all.

I would never wish this level of humiliation on anyone. If you value your dignity, do not step foot in this place.

We have been disappointed with the amenities and the condition of the hostel. We booked a room with private bathroom through Trip which was not available at the hostel. The beds, pillows were in a bad condition. The kitchen was infested with cockroaches, we have to pay to get fresh towels. The laundry service is pricey for the this category of stay.Overall, it does not deserve the price we paid at all, we would not repeat it.

Although it was very central, the hostal itself did not live up to it. The room had NO windows, the the women’s bathroom had 2 sinks but not a single shelf to our things on the same goes for the showers. In the kitchen there was NO freezer and only one working fridge. The other one was broken. There were some other small  things missing or wrong. I don’t think I would go back there. The staff was rather nice.

This hostel is the most beautiful hostel I have ever seen. When we entered this hostel it felt like a museum. You have beautiful flamenco dresses and the coolest part is is that you can try the dresses on! There is a Nice ambiance and the staff is great! It felt like family. The breakfast is good. It contains a lot of sweets, but you also have milk, eggs and fruit. The rooms are big and they have free lockers. There is also a computer and a kitchen which is very clean. A big thanks to Juan! Always super super friendly and very kind to everyone. The hostel has a great location and the Dia supermarket is just a minute walking away.

I came back to Malaga, because of this hostel. For me was a beautiful place with genius loci. If you like typical spanish style, this is the one. Our room was lovely place with the window, everyday they made our bed, bathroom was always clean, only toilet paper was missing often and soap was not soap, so l had my own. There is a good kitchen, where you can make any food you bring. Breakfast was good, there was always some fresh food and they try have some different variety of deserts and sendwiches.Only what l did not like so much, that coffee was on the table as a last item and not always was in the time. Sometimes l needed to wait another 10 or 15 minutes and the oldest lady from the team was not so much friendly type. All other (younger) people were super friendly and helpful. ||Atmosphere is the best what they have, location great, everything was super clean and price is super friendly. Thank you Patio19, l loved it there.

we stayed there for 6 nights and except the last day, it was great. our room, and probably all the rooms, looked very unique. the design of the hostal was awesome. there were 3 shared bathrooms, all of them were pretty clean, except the last day. and it’s good value for money. but I guess at weekends, there may be groups that make noises. we experienced one of those, and it was the worst thing about it. Although I liked the whose experience. the kitchen was really good too.

L’ambiente informale, giovanile, simpatico. Tutto è molto pulito e tenuto bene.

Super endroit !

    Dormitory Accommodation

A core offering of most hostels is dormitory accommodation. This typically involves shared rooms with multiple beds, allowing budget-conscious travelers to connect with others. Hostel dorms often offer varying sizes and configurations to suit different preferences.

    Private Rooms

While known for dorms, many hostels also provide private rooms for those seeking more privacy. These rooms can range from double rooms to family suites, often with en-suite bathrooms, offering a more comfortable and personalized stay.

    Breakfast Options

Many hostels offer breakfast options to start the day. This can range from a simple continental breakfast with bread, jam, and coffee to more elaborate buffets with hot and cold dishes. It's a convenient way to fuel up before exploring the city.

    Communal Kitchen Facilities

A popular feature of hostels is the availability of communal kitchen facilities. Guests can prepare their own meals, saving money and catering to specific dietary needs. These kitchens are usually well-equipped with cooking utensils and appliances.

    Locker Storage

For the safety of belongings, hostels commonly provide locker storage. Guests can secure their valuables, particularly important for those traveling with electronics or important documents. Lockers may require a padlock, sometimes available for purchase.

    Common Room and Social Areas

Hostels prioritize social interaction and often include common room and social areas. These spaces are designed for guests to relax, meet fellow travelers, and participate in planned activities or games, fostering a sense of community.

    Tours and Activity Booking

Hostels often act as travel hubs, providing tours and activity booking services. They can arrange excursions to local attractions, walking tours of the city, or transportation to nearby destinations, simplifying travel planning.

    Laundry Services

Recognizing the needs of long-term travelers, many hostels offer laundry services. This can range from self-service laundry machines to full-service laundry options, ensuring guests can keep their clothing clean and fresh throughout their stay.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hostels in Malaga

    What exactly is a hostel?

A hostel is a type of accommodation that offers a budget-friendly alternative to hotels. They typically feature dormitory-style rooms, often with bunk beds, which are shared by multiple guests. However, many hostels also offer private rooms for those seeking more privacy. Hostels often create a social atmosphere and provide opportunities to meet other travelers.

Why would someone choose a hostel over a hotel?

People often choose hostels for a few key reasons. Firstly, they are generally significantly cheaper than hotels, especially for solo travelers or those on a tight budget. Secondly, hostels often foster a more social and communal atmosphere. Finally, many hostels offer amenities like communal kitchens, free Wi-Fi, and organized activities that are not typically found in traditional hotels.

What kind of amenities can I expect at a hostel in Malaga?

While amenities vary between hostels, you can generally expect free Wi-Fi, lockers for storing belongings, and shared bathroom facilities. Many hostels in Malaga also offer communal kitchens where guests can prepare their own meals, a lounge area for socializing, and sometimes even a terrace or rooftop patio. Some hostels might also have laundry facilities or offer tours and activities.

    Are hostels safe?

Hostels generally prioritize guest safety. Most have secure entrances, lockers in the rooms, and staff present around the clock. It’s always important to be mindful of your belongings and take basic safety precautions, regardless of where you’re staying. Reading reviews from other travelers can often provide insights into the safety and security of a particular hostel.

How do I book a bed at a hostel?

Most hostels offer online booking through their own websites or popular booking platforms like Hostelworld, Booking.com, or Expedia. It's often a good idea to book in advance, especially during peak season, to ensure you secure a bed and the preferred room type. Check the cancellation policy before confirming your booking.

What's the difference between a dorm room and a private room?

A dorm room is a shared room containing bunk beds and accommodating multiple guests. It’s a more budget-friendly option and offers opportunities for socializing. A private room, on the other hand, is a self-contained room for one or two people, offering more privacy and often includes a private bathroom. The price difference is typically significant.

What should I bring to a hostel?

Essential items to bring to a hostel include a travel towel, a lock for your locker, earplugs (to block out noise), an eye mask (to block out light), and comfortable footwear. It's also a good idea to pack toiletries and any medications you require. A power adapter might be necessary depending on your country of origin.

What is the best way to meet people in a hostel?

Hostels are fantastic places to meet other travelers! Take advantage of communal areas like the lounge or kitchen, participate in any organized activities or tours offered by the hostel, and be open to conversations with fellow guests. Many hostels have a notice board where people can advertise activities or find travel companions.

Are there hostels suitable for families in Malaga?

Yes, while hostels are often associated with solo travelers, there are family-friendly hostels in Malaga. These hostels typically offer larger rooms or family rooms, cribs or cots upon request, and a more relaxed atmosphere. It's important to check the hostel’s policies and facilities to ensure they meet your family’s needs.

What should I do if I have a problem or complaint during my stay?

If you experience any problems or have a complaint during your stay, the best course of action is to inform the hostel staff directly. Most hostels have a designated person to handle guest inquiries and complaints. Keep a record of any issues and document them with photos if appropriate. This information can be useful if the problem isn't resolved promptly.
